It's a catch-all easily altered spell that can affect any enemy you encounter. Sure, you don't get the gold Dragon damage bonus, but it's still good. Enemy resistant to fire? Don't bother using elemental substitution and just deal frost damage. Snowball you just need to hit and BAM, you're good. Sure, a maximized fireball might seem great, but you have a really high chance of only dealing half damage, assuming they don't have SR or Evasion. This lets you skip it completely, and that's amazing. A ranged touch attack isn't too hard to manage most of the time, even at higher levels, but SR is normally your biggest weakness. Though since you're spontaneous I guess you can switch it up as the situation calls for it. Throw on maximize when you need it, but you might want to use higher level spell slots for other spells most of the time. You'll be casting a level one spell for 10d6+10 fire damage, and you have practically unlimited spells of that level. I'd skip rime and maximize if you're low on feats go for Elemental and Empower. Pick up still spell and carry a metamagic rod in each hand if you're worried about feats. Oh and one last thing because this is a level 1 spell, it means metamagic rods for it will be cheap as all fuck. Since you are firetype or something, see if you can use 'elemental spell fire' and get your gold bloodline powers to work with it too. What other spell level 1-3 spell will get you that much bang for your buck?

There is no magic point this starts to work it works as soon as you get some metamagics and keeps working better as you level. As you get the feats the spell gets better. You have one spell that does it all, so pad the rest of your spellbook with all the shit people almost never use because they need those slots to do things you can do with a level 1 spell.Īnd lets not forget it builds with you. Yes it takes a lot of feats but who cares because those feats are good for all your other spells too.

But it CAN go there if you want to crack it out that much. Is it 'the best?' I think so, only because it basically does everything (cc, big damage, essentially unresistable) AND doesn't chip away at 5/6/7th level spell slots like a fireball or something would. Remember the two traits only let you pick a spell level 3 or less, so it's going to be tricky to find something as good as this. As your caster level increases you can regulate most of your lower level spells to some kind of snowball, and then dedicate every other spell you ever learn to some kind of buff or disable. And it also uses up almost every feat slot you can get. Very very good, unless against more than two targets. Two with quicken (using 5th level slots for the quickened ones). If you're fighting 1 target it's absolutely amazing, but against a group you can only damage and entangle one target with it. Rime requires you to hit it again every round as it's originally a 1st level spell, and uses up an extra feat. Possible using 2nd level spell slots at 15th level. Add in Rime and Elemental for a 7th level slot, and at 15th take Spell Perfection along with Spontaneous Metafocus at an earlier level so you can use it as a standard action, and lower the slot level by 3.ħ5 + basically10d3 damage (85-105 damage, 92 average.). With the sorcerer bloodline silver or white draconic (I chose gold so I don't get this.) it gains an extra 15 damage. With the two traits it's a +4 so uses a 5th level spell slot. With Intensified, Empower, and Maximize it does 60+(10d6 - 1/2) at level 10+. /r/3d6 - For character creation, advice and sharing (system agnostic)./r/Battlemaps - For your VTT battlemap requirements./r/Tabletop - For your general tabletop gaming shenanigans./r/lfg - Looking For Group, find other players, etc./r/RPG - For general, non-Pathfinder related RPG discussion./r/Starfinder_rpg - For dedicated discussion of Paizo's Science Fantasy system and setting./r/Pathfinder_Kingmaker - To discuss the Owlcat-made computer RPGs./r/Pathfinder2e - For dedicated Second Edition discussion./r/Pathfinder - For Pathfinder Society Organization/Discussion.Other subreddits you might be interested in: Fillable character sheets and intelligent character builders.
